I don't often enjoy trips to the post office

...but today I picked up these lovely Charles and Ray Eames stamps and it made my day.

Well hello there.

Allow me to introduce myself - my name is Melissa, and I like design.
So, let's talk about some, shall we?
Where to begin?

If I were to encapsulate what makes an interior space appealing to me in a photograph, this would be a good choice. It's the Towers House in Connecticut, by architect Ulrich Franzen. Very typical of a midcentury space, with low, long horizontal lines, and nearly uninterrupted glass creating an intimate relationship between the interior and nature.

Particularly, the faceted, wood-paneled ceiling gives a depth and warmth to a style that many consider 'cold' and clinical. This juxtaposition of clean lines and organic elements has always appealed to me - modernity, tempered by nature!
These ideas carry over into everything from graphic design to fashion, and it's that idea of juxtaposition that draws me to something more often than not. Balance is the key.
